Following an excellent traditional English lunch of Tomato Soup, Roast Beef with Yorkshire pudding & delicious vegetables and Spotted Dick members of the club and their friends were provided traditional English entertainment by the Coventry Morris Men. With clashing sticks, flying hankies and all the bells and whistles expected, the Morris dancers provided 30 minutes of energetic hops, skips and stomps, interspersed with a couple of clog dances from Nancy (a Morris lady?).
At at time when flu is rampant and coughs and colds are an ever present threat one has to wonder if it is healthy to sit in a room with so many handkerchiefs being vigorously waved at every opportunity. If this event does bring about an epidemic then Sue Draper, who introduced the Morris Men, will no doubt suffer more than most as she was invited to stand in the middle of the throng as they danced around her with their kerchiefs flicking in all directions.
They had a dance with swords but fortunately all their swords got jammed together in the middle of the dance so luckily no-one was hurt. In their last dance they had a go at each other with sticks - but again, no-one was hurt.
Sue finished off by thanking the Morris Men for their skilful performance - and our thanks go to Sue, together with Captains Lesley and Charles for organising the event.
