Members and friends of Kenilworth Golf Club gathered at the White House (Hodgetts Lane) for the Captains' Charity Evening on what turned out to be one of the nicest evenings of the year so far.
With the Fidelis String Quartet providing very pleasant musical entertainment, the ladies passing round the delicious bites and the gents serving the drinks a very enjoyable social evening was enjoyed in the sunshine. There was croquet available in one corner of the garden, a shooting contest in another area and general chit-chat everywhere.
It proved to be very successful for the NSPCC - the Captains' Charity - with about £1000 raised from the evening.
Philip Hoare was an early leader in the shooting contest - with 11 hits from his 12 shots but this was passed by both Jackie Corby and Maggie Smith who achieved 12 hits from their 12 shots. Unfortunately there was no time for a shoot out on the evening. Rumour has it that they will meet at High Noon on the OK patio to decide the winner - this club ain't big enough for the both of them!
